New Concept of Confession in a Service

I was completely unaware of the practice of confession of sins as a part of the worship service.  In Gospel Worship, it is mentioned as one of the four things disappearing from worship services.  In my own church I would consider it gone.  The only time we take in the service to confess sins is right before we take communion.  I always thought of confession as a Catholic act.  If we were ever taught about confession it was either to the people we had wronged or to God, but in a personal time, never in a service.  I am curious as to how this would be played out corporately during a worship service.
